What Is Virtual Dedicated Hosting?
Server splitting method is known as virtual dedicated hosting. You can install different operating systems on each server and these servers can be rebooted independently.
With virtual hosting you share a server with other websites but the configuration is done as your website is the only site on the server. It acts like a mini computer operating in a computer. It offers all the advantages of dedicated hosting without all the expenses. As you are sharing your assets with other websites, your website will get more limits for storage and data transfer and more services will be provided by host provider. You only need to upload and edit your files using file transfer protocol on the virtual server.
There are two types of virtual dedicated hosting: Unmanaged and Unmetered hosting.
In unmanaged virtual hosting customer have to manage his server and no assistance will be provided by hosting company. Unmetered hosting is similar to unmanaged but there is a limitation for use so that it can’t exceed monthly budget.
Virtual dedicated hosting is providing facilities of both shared and dedicated hosting making a bridge between both of them. It gives independence from other customers but at low cost. As the virtual server runs its own copy of operating system, customers have direct access to that and any software supported by that operating system can be installed on the server. A disadvantage of virtual server is that some software does not run in virtualized environment such as firewalls and anti-virus. There may be some more limitations placed by hosting providers but they will be less than the limitations on shared servers.
If your website is not so large and you want to stay away from difficulties come with shared hosting but can’t afford dedicated server hosting then virtual dedicated hosting is the right choice for you.
